Celebrating a Sense of Place

After Harvest ends and the holidays wrap up, things start to slow down everywhere, including at The Reserve. This much-needed downtime is akin to hibernation out in the wild. This year, we were blessed with quite a few rainy days that gave us another reason to slow down and catch up—which, in our case involves planting cover crops, pruning vines, and repairing trellises. While the vines were being nourished, so were we.

The Napa Valley Agricultural Preserve: Looking Back to See How Far We’ve Come
Historically, the ideal of preservation is ripe with controversy. It’s something that’s hotly debated between preservationists and developers in the moment, and then greatly appreciated by the beneficiary generations that follow.
Case in point: on August 25, 1916, the National Park Service was established. It’s hard to imagine a world without Yosemite or the Grand Canyon, but it took a conscious act to set aside that land and thwart any development or exploitation. So, in the year of the National Parks’ 100th anniversary, it’s especially poignant to look at our own backyard to appreciate the acres and acres of scenic vineyards that populate Napa County. It could’ve been different.
Spa Day: Meadowood’s Pampering All-Suite Spa Experience

Nestled in a hillside forest oasis tucked away opposite the tennis courts is Meadowood’s new spa that debuted in November 2015. So harmonious with the rest of the property, it’s as if this Backen, Gillam & Kroeger-designed beauty has always been here. It should come as no surprise that the very same architects also designed Meadowood, The Napa Valley Reserve, Screaming Eagle, and Harlan Estate, among other Valley masterpieces.
